Description:
1,3-Dichlorobutane is a chlorinated hydrocarbon that is used as a solvent in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride. It has been shown to be a potent activator of the human immune system and can induce cytokine production. 1,3-Dichlorobutane has also been shown to inhibit the growth of rat liver microsomes by inhibiting amine degradation. The compound is stable in hexane, but reacts slowly with water or alcohols, which limits its application. 1,3-Dichlorobutane may be thermodynamically unstable when exposed to strong bases such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.
