4-Isopropenyltoluene is an oxidation product of toluene. It has an inhibitory effect on the growth of many plants and can be used as a solvent in organic chemistry. 4-Isopropenyltoluene can also be used as a reagent in the preparation of various chemical compounds. 4-Isopropenyltoluene is most commonly synthesized by reacting ethanol with a strong acid catalyst, such as sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid. The reaction produces a variety of volatile oils, including α-pinene and hydroxyl group.
