Product Information

Name:
(1-Ethylpropyl)benzene
Synonyms:
  • Pentan-3-Ylbenzene
Description:

(1-Ethylpropyl)benzene is an organic compound with the formula C6H11CH2CH3. It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. It has a boiling point of about 6.4 °C, which makes it useful as a solvent for substances that are not soluble in other solvents. This compound exists as two conformers, one of which has a steric or enthalpic factor of 0.5, while the other has a steric factor of 1.0. The transition states for these conformations differ by 4 kJ/mol with respect to their entropic factors (0.8 and 1). The rate factor for the more stable conformer is 5 times faster than that for the less stable conformer. Consequently, (1-ethylpropyl)benzene will react at a much faster rate than its isomer, isopropylbenzene.(END)
