- 2-Ethyl-1-benzothiophene
2-Ethylbenzo[b]thiophene is a heterocycle that is used as a model system for metabolic disorders. It has been shown to inhibit nicotinic acetylcholine, fluorescence properties, and aromatic hydrocarbons. 2-Ethylbenzo[b]thiophene has been shown to be an inhibitor of cancer cells resistant to other drugs. It inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to sulfonic acids on their surfaces. 2-Ethylbenzo[b]thiophene also has a
sulfonyl group that can bind with hydrogenated hydroxyl groups on the surface of cancer cells and inhibit their growth. The carbonyl group in this molecule inhibits cellular respiration by binding with cytochrome c oxidase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of molecular oxygen in mitochondria.
