It is homologous to the amino acid glycine, but with an ethyl group on the amine side. 4-(2-Aminoethyl)benzoic acid binds to the perovskite structure of metal oxides and alters their optical properties. The interaction between the metal oxide and 4-(2-Aminoethyl)benzoic acid depends on the pH of the solution. At acidic pH, 4-(2-Aminoethyl)benzoic acid can be protonated, which leads to a decrease in its binding to perovskite structures and an increase in its ability to act as a ligand.
