4-Fluorophenylacetonitrile is a synthetic chemical that is used in the synthesis of 1-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-methyl-2-aminopropane. It is neutralized with hydrochloric acid and a particle is formed by adding propylamine and potassium hydroxide. The particle reacts with magnesium chloride, which causes the reaction to become organic. The chloride ion reacts with hydrogen gas to produce hydrogen chloride gas and water. The hydrogen gas bubbles out of the solution, leaving an organic liquid that can be separated from the solid particles.
