Description:

3,3-Diphenylacrylaldehyde (DPA) is an organic compound that belongs to the class of phenols. It is a colorless solid with a strong acidic odor. It has been shown to be an efficient corrosion inhibitor and benzyl groups are often used as a protective group for carbonyl compounds in pharmaceutical preparations. DPA can be used in electrophotographic processes because it has high optical properties and it can also be used for cancer therapy. The carbonyl group in DPA reacts with metal surfaces and the hydroxyl group reacts with oxygen, which leads to corrosion. The aromatic hydrocarbon part of DPA contributes to its optical properties, such as its color and melting point.
