Description:
5,16-Androstadien-3-ol is a non-competitive inhibitor of the cytochrome P450 enzyme. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of human nadph-cytochrome p450 in primary cells and in testicular cancer cells. 5,16-Androstadien-3-ol also inhibits the expression plasmid that encodes for cytochrome P450. The drug has been shown to inhibit metabolic profiles in rat liver microsomes and can be used as an inhibitor for combination drug therapy against cancer. 5,16-Androstadien-3-ol binds to the heme group of cytochrome P450 with its side chain cleavage to inhibit the enzymatic activity by competitive inhibition.
