Description:

Rhenium(VII) oxide is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of transition metal oxides. It has an octahedral structure and the composition ReO3. The ReO3 unit cell contains two types of oxygen atoms: one type with a hydroxyl group, and the other type with a nitrogen atom. Rhenium oxide has been used as a solid catalyst for the hydrogenation of fatty acids in the presence of zirconium oxide or acidic ion-exchange resins. Rhenium oxide also emits light when heated, which can be used for analytical purposes.
