Zinc telluride (ZnTe) is a semiconductor material that has been used in heterojunction photovoltaic devices. It is an absorber that can be grown on a substrate of magnesium oxide and it has shown good optical properties. ZnTe can be grown by thermal co-evaporation with methanol as the solvent. The crystalline structure of ZnTe is hexagonal wurtzite, which has a lattice constant of 0.41 nm. The thermal expansion coefficient for ZnTe is 3.2 × 10−6 K−1, which is much higher than silicon or germanium. ZnTe also shows low energy radiation resistance, making it suitable for use in space applications such as satellites and spacecrafts.
Zinc telluride has been studied for its photocatalytic activity and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). This material is able to produce hydrogen gas from water when illuminated by sunlight or artificial
