Antimony (IV) oxide is a tetroxide that is used in the manufacture of selenium compounds. It has been shown to have transport properties in tissue culture and to be an excellent electron-donor material for use as a polymeric matrix. It can be used in the preparation of light emitting diodes, where it provides the surface methodology and emits light when excited by an electric current. It has also been shown to be useful as a particle catalyst for hydrochloric acid oxidation. Antimony (IV) oxide has a high melting point and is stable up to about 400°C, but decomposes at higher temperatures.
