2-Butylsuccinic acid is a colorless liquid that is used as a polymerization initiator in the manufacture of polyester. It can also be used as an antimicrobial agent. 2-Butylsuccinic acid reacts with magnesium to produce thermal energy, which can be used to convert aliphatic hydrocarbons into aromatic hydrocarbons. This process is known as hydrogenation. The reaction vessel for this chemical process is usually made from nickel and copper alloy.
