Bromotributylstannane (BTS) is a reactive organotin compound that is used in the synthesis of organic compounds. BTS reacts with both hydrochloric acid and metathesis reactions to form a new carbon-tin bond, which is known as the Staudinger reaction. This reaction has been shown to be highly sensitive to detection, as well as having high reactivity. In addition, BTS also has anhydrous sodium properties and can form all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) when reacted with all-trans retinaldehyde. The ATRA chain reaction mechanism is initiated by the activation of anhydrous sodium sites on the surface of cancer cells by reactive bromine radicals. This leads to cancer cell death through a process called apoptosis.
