Description:
3-(Dodecylthio)propionic Acid is a quaternary ammonium salt that has been used in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials. It can be added to PVC to reduce the surface friction and improve the lubricity of finished products. 3-(Dodecylthio)propionic Acid also has antimicrobial properties and is used as an additive in plastics and other materials to provide protection against bacteria, fungi, and algae. The antimicrobial activity of 3-(dodecylthio)propionic acid may be due to its ability to bind metal ions such as chloride or magnesium, forming insoluble salts. It may also inhibit the biosynthesis of mycolic acids by binding to magnesium ions and inhibiting their polymerization into long-chain fatty acids.
