The hydroquinone is the product of methanol, cyclohexane, and malonitrile in an acid catalyzed reaction. Cyclohexane-1,4-diylidene)dimalononitrile is very soluble in water and it has a high efficiency for use in organic synthesis. Cyclohexane-1,4-diylidene)dimalononitrile can also be used as a catalyst for the production of alanine from ethanol and malonitrile.
