Product Information
Methyl 2-ethylisonicotinate is a postulated compound that exhibits tautomerism. It is a reactive peroxide with the potential to form radical species, which may be involved in the catalytic mechanism of ethionamide, a drug used to treat tuberculosis. Methyl 2-ethylisonicotinate has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme monooxygenase and preventing the formation of fluoroacetate. However, methyl 2-ethylisonicotinate is not as potent as other drugs used for tuberculosis treatment and has been shown to be ineffective against drug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
