Synonyms:

  • 2-Furanol, tetrahydro-, 2-acetate
  • 2-Acetoxyfuranidine
  • 2-Acetoxytetrahydrofuran
Description:

Tetrahydrofuran-2-yl acetate is a pyrimidine nucleoside that inhibits the activity of cytidine deaminase, an enzyme involved in the synthesis of DNA. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in vivo and inhibit tumor growth in vitro. Tetrahydrofuran-2-yl acetate is also an anti-viral agent and has anti-cancer properties both in vitro and in vivo. The compound is found as two stereoisomers: R-(+) and S-(−). In vitro studies have shown that R-(+) isomer was more potent than the S-(−) isomer against pancreatic cancer cells, while the opposite was seen for breast cancer cells.
