Description:

1-Methyl-2-(methylthio)-5-nitro-1H-imidazole is a coplanar, imidazole compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial and antifungal properties. It inhibits the growth of Candida albicans by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an important component of fungal cell membranes. 1-Methyl-2-(methylthio)-5-nitro-1H-imidazole also has antimycotic activity against gram negative bacteria and other microorganisms. This drug has a potential to be developed as an antibiotic.
