4'-Methylvalerophenone is an experimental solvent that has been shown to have hydrogen bonding and biradical interactions with other molecules. It has been shown to be a more efficient solvent than chloroform, dichloromethane, or acetone in experiments involving the photoreaction of furan-2-carboxaldehyde with benzoyl chloride. 4'-Methylvalerophenone has also exhibited solvent effects on the bonding of various compounds, such as methyl benzoate, methyl phenyl carbinol, and 2-methyl-1-butanol.
