Product Information
3H-1,2-Benzodithiol-3-one is a reactive molecule that can undergo nucleophilic attack, thereby forming dithiols. This reaction has been used for the detection of cancer cells by using anilines as the substrate. The 3H-1,2-Benzodithiol-3-one is oxidized to form a sulfonic acid, which produces a color change in aniline from yellow to red. If there are no cancer cells present in the sample, then the 3H-1,2-Benzodithiol-3-one remains unchanged and will not react with aniline.
Amines are also able to react with 3H-1,2-Benzodithiol-3-one to form aminothiols. These reactions have been used for tumor suppression therapy because they inhibit DNA synthesis and cell division. This treatment has been shown to reduce tumor size in animal models and is being studied
