It is an experimental, theoretical, and crystallographic molecule that has been studied extensively in the last decade. X-ray crystallography was used to analyze the structure of this molecule and it was found that 4-hydroxy-8-methyl-2(1H)-quinolinone can exist as a dimerization product of vinyl acetate.
