3,4-Dibenzyloxyphenylacetic acid is a phenylacetic acid derivative. It is an impurity in the synthesis of the drug clofazimine. The dihydrochloride form of 3,4-dibenzyloxyphenylacetic acid can be used for analytical purposes and has been shown to be stable up to 140°C. This compound exists as two polymorphic modifications, one metastable and one stable. A modification with 2-chlorotriethylamine hydrochloride and benzyl groups on opposite sides of the molecule is reproducible and titratable with standard methods.
