5-(Trifluoromethyl)-2H-tetrazole is a compound that has been found to be an effective herbicide. It has been shown to have a significant effect on the growth of plants, and has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids in bacteria. 5-(Trifluoromethyl)-2H-tetrazole binds to the carbonyl group, hydroxyl group, and crystalline polymorphs of these compounds, preventing their formation. The compound is also capable of binding with metal ions such as Cu(II) and Fe(III), which results in its high toxicity to plants.
