1,5-Bis(chloromethyl)naphthalene is a chemical that has been shown to have antineoplastic activity. It has been tested in mouse models of transplanted and spontaneous skin cancer, and in the HL-60 cell line. 1,5-Bis(chloromethyl)naphthalene was found to have a cytotoxic effect on HL-60 cells. In vivo studies showed that it had an antitumor effect on transplanted skin cancer cells in mice. The mechanism of action is not known, but it may be due to the inhibition of cellular transformation or the induction of apoptosis. 1,5-Bis(chloromethyl)naphthalene also binds to sialoadhesin on the surface of human leukocytes and blocks their ability to bind to tumor cells. This compound has been used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as lupus erythematosus because it inhibits
