5,6,7-Trimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline is a nonphenolic natural compound that has been identified in the roots of pellotine. It has also been isolated from the bark of natural sources and crystallized. The methylated derivative of this compound is weberine. 5,6,7-Trimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline has an identity with heliamine and can be extracted from the plants by boiling with water or ethanol to produce a dark brown liquid. 5,6,7-Trimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline was first isolated in 1887 by R. Wieland and E. Zeller who found it as an extract in helianthus annuus (sunflower).
