Product Information

Name:
1-Benzyl-1,2-dihydropyridin-2-one
Synonyms:
  • 1-Benzyl-2(1H)-pyridone
  • 2(1H)-pyridinone, 1-(phenylmethyl)-
Description:

1-Benzyl-1,2-dihydropyridin-2-one is an alkylating agent that can be detected by means of its fluorescence. It is used as a potentiator of the antimicrobial effects of chlorine dioxide in water treatment and as an additive to make polymers more resistant to degradation. The kinetics of the reaction with 2-chloroethyl sulfide are reversible. The reaction product between 1-benzyl-1,2-dihydropyridin-2-one and 2-chloroethyl sulfide is the sulfonate derivative. Kinetic data has been obtained for this reaction rate. The addition of a peroxide leads to the decomposition of 1-benzyl-1,2-dihydropyridin-2 one into benzene and pyridine.
