1,4-Diphenyl-3-thiosemicarbazide (DTIC) is a hypoglycemic agent that has been shown to have a rapid effect on blood glucose levels in wild-type mice. DTIC acts as an inhibitor of mitochondrial membrane potential and decreases the production of ATP by glycolysis. This drug also has an acidic pH and can be used as a substrate molecule for diazonium salt chemistry. The chemical structure of DTIC is characterized by its nitrogen atoms and four phenyl rings with one thiosemicarbazide group. The pharmacological effects of this drug are observed in biological studies, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, with the help of which it was found that DTIC has no effect on leishmania or malonic acid.
