2-Iodobenzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (IBD) is a synthetic compound that has antibacterial properties. It is created by the reaction of boronic acids with acridone. The crystal structure of IBD has been determined to be a zinc complex with an octahedral geometry. This compound is soluble in water and forms crystals that are yellow colored. The infrared spectra of IBD show two bands at 3,870 cm and 3,750 cm, which correspond to the stretching vibrations of the carboxylate group and the ester group in IBD. This indicates that there is a carboxylate group (-COOH) on one end of the molecule and an ester group (-COOR) on the other end.
