Hexabromocyclohexane (HBC) is a brominated flame retardant that has been shown to exhibit transcriptional regulation. HBC has been used as a model system in the study of hydroxyl group-mediated transcriptional regulation. HBC activates the Jak2 V617F mutant, which is associated with BCR-ABL kinase, and this activation leads to increased colony-stimulating factor (CSF) and light emission from cells. HBC also induces glycol ethers, epidermal growth factor (EGF), and radiation in liver cells. In addition, it has been shown that chronic exposure to HBC can lead to neurotrophic factors such as nerve growth factor (NGF).
