N-(2-Propynyl)-2,3-dihydroinden-1-amine is an inhibitor of monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) and has neuroprotective properties. It has been shown to increase locomotor activity in mice that have been treated with selegiline, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. N-(2-Propynyl)-2,3-dihydroinden-1-amine is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme MAO-B and also inhibits the enzyme MAO-A. This drug may be useful as a pharmacological treatment for Parkinson's disease due to its ability to prevent mitochondrial dysfunction, which is involved in the molecular pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease.
