1-tert-Butyl-2-nitrobenzene is a nitro compound that is produced by the thermolysis of 1,4-diazoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) in the presence of tert-butylnitrite and water. The reaction is exothermic and produces a mixture of products, including 1-tert-butyl-2-nitrobenzene. This compound has been used as a cocatalyst for the synthesis of nitro compounds such as 2,5-dimethylaniline and 3,5-dimethylaniline.
