- o,o-Diethyl S-phenyl thiophosphate
Diethyl (phenylsulfanyl)phosphonate is a reagent that is used for the synthesis of phosphonates, nucleophilic attack and postulated as biomolecular. It is an electrophile that can react with disulfides to form methanol solvates. The reaction of diethyl (phenylsulfanyl)phosphonate with nucleophiles is accelerated by the presence of catalysts such as copper(II) acetate, which are capable of removing electron density from the phosphorus atom. Diethyl (phenylsulfanyl)phosphonate has been shown to react with nucleophiles in a controlled experiment using nerve tissue. This reaction produces phosphorothioates, which are derivatives of thioester-linked phosphodiester bonds and are used in DNA synthesis.
