Description

Lactucin is a natural compound that has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells and is a potent inhibitor of the polymerase chain reaction. Lactucin is also known as lactucopicrin, inulin, usnic acid, 3-o-caffeoylquinic acid, and chicory. Lactucin has been shown to inhibit brain functions such as memory and learning. This chemical also inhibits signal pathways involved in the control of nutrient absorption by the brain. Lactucin has been shown to be toxic to animal cells in culture when used at high concentrations. Lactucin can be found in many plants such as lettuce, chicory, and dandelion.
