Methyl N-(4-nitrophenyl)carbamate is a chemical compound that is used as an insecticide and acaricide. It has been shown to inhibit the translation of proteins in cells by interfering with the hydrogen bonding network, which is required for the formation of α-helixes, β-sheets, and other structural elements in proteins. Methyl N-(4-nitrophenyl)carbamate blocks the synthesis of protein chains by inhibiting ribosomal function. The aromatic ring of methyl N-(4-nitrophenyl)carbamate can bind to DNA and form covalent bonds with guanine residues, which leads to mutations in bacterial dna.
