Product Information

Name:
4-Nitro-1-naphthoic acid
Description:

4-Nitro-1-naphthoic acid is a monosubstituted, aromatic compound that can be used as a fluorescent probe for the determination of amines in organic solvents. It is soluble in most common solvents and reacts with acetyl chloride to form 4-nitrosobenzaldehyde. The product is then reacted with dimethylformamide to form the corresponding nitrosobenzene derivative. This process continues until the reaction reaches equilibrium, with the final product being 4-nitrosobenzonitrile. The nitrone group on this molecule has been shown to react with cycloaliphatic compounds, such as acetonitrile and fatty acids, leading to their formation.
4-Nitro-1-naphthoic acid also reacts with sulfoxide and chloride ions in an acidic medium to produce a fluorescent substance which absorbs light at wavelengths around 300 nm. The mechanism by which this substance forms is
