Product Information

Name:
BI 0314
Synonyms:
  • N- [3- (4-Piperidinyl) - 5- (trifluoromethyl) phenyl] guanidine
Description:

BI 0314 is a new drug candidate that belongs to the class of drugs called selective GABA transporters. It is a prodrug that is metabolized in vivo to an active form. BI 0314 has been shown to be effective against bacterial strains found in wastewater and also has potential for treating schizophrenia and other disorders of the occipital cortex. BI 0314 was found to bind to the gyrase-binding site on DNA, which may be responsible for its antimicrobial activity. BI 0314 was also shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to their DNA, causing the cells to rupture. The drug candidate also binds with high affinity to a protein receptor found on neuronal cells, which could be responsible for its therapeutic effects.
