Product Information

Name:
4-(2-Hydrazino-thiazol-4-yl)-phenylamine
Synonyms:
  • 2(3H)-thiazolone, 4-(4-aminophenyl)-, hydrazone, (2Z)-
  • 4-(2-Hydrazino-1,3-thiazol-4-yl)aniline
  • Benzenamine, 4-(2-hydrazinyl-4-thiazolyl)-
Description:

4-(2-Hydrazino-thiazol-4-yl)-phenylamine is a carcinogen that has been shown to induce tumors in rats. This agent is a nitrophenyl compound and formic acid derivative that acts as an inhibitor of protein synthesis by binding to the enzyme, methionine synthase. It causes DNA damage, which can lead to cancer. 4-(2-Hydrazino-thiazol-4-yl)-phenylamine also induces mammary gland tumors in female rats and has been shown to cause liver and kidney lesions in male rats. The carcinogenic effects are due to its ability to bind covalently to proteins, including enzymes required for protein synthesis, through an aminophenyl group. This may be due to the presence of substituents on the phenyl ring or because it is metabolized into formaldehyde, which damages DNA.
