- Tridecanol
Tridecanol is a mixture of three isomers that are hydrolyzed to form p-hydroxybenzoic acid. Tridecanol is a component of the extractant used in the separation of fatty acids, which facilitates the production of glycol ethers. It is also an intermediate for the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid. Tridecanol has been shown to inhibit 5-HT concentrations in reaction solution and increase leaf structure. This compound reacts with phosphorus pentoxide at acidic pH to form hydrogen bonds and produce an acidic product. Tridecanol can also be used as an extractant for water vapor and glycol ethers, which are produced during the synthesis of fatty acids. The hydroxyl group on tridecanol reacts with water vapor to form a hydrogen bond, which makes it useful as an extractant for water vapor and glycol ethers during their production.
