Glycidyl caprate is a chemical that inhibits the function of matrix metalloproteinases. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of influenza virus and may have potential use in the treatment of influenza infection. Glycidyl caprate is structurally similar to polycarboxylic acid, which can act as a substrate for matrix metalloproteinases, but it does not contain a hydroxy group. Glycidyl caprate binds to chloride ions and aliphatic hydrocarbon molecules, preventing them from binding with matrix metalloproteinases. It also has antibacterial properties due to its ability to inhibit bacterial growth by interfering with cell wall synthesis and protein synthesis.
