Product Information
3-(Carboxymethyl)sydnone (3CMS) is a colorless liquid with a faintly fruity odor. It is an organic compound that is used as a precursor to other chemicals, such as 3-chloro-2,2-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)propane (DMP), which are used in the production of polyurethanes. 3CMS is reactive and can be easily hydrolyzed by water or strong bases, such as hydrogen chloride. This reaction produces hydrogen chloride gas and methanol. 3CMS reacts with acids to produce alcohols and carboxylic acids, depending on the acid used. For example, it reacts with acetic acid to produce ethanol and acetyl chloride. The spectrophotometric method for measuring 3CMS concentrations involves adding hydrogen chloride, followed by measurement of the absorbance at 415 nm. Analogs of this molecule include 2-carboxybenzaldehyde (2
