Product Information
- 2,7,12,18-Tetraethyl-3,8,13,17-Tetramethylporphyrin
Etioporphyrin III is a biological pigment that binds to DNA and has been used as a model complex in molecular modeling studies. Etioporphyrin III can be found in diesel exhaust and has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It is also known to bind to the heme receptor, a protein that transports iron. Etioporphyrin III is fluorescent and exhibits light emission when excited by laser pulses. Etioporphyrin III has a strong absorption band at 515 nm with an emission maximum at 590 nm. The fluorescence lifetimes of etioporphyrin III are about 100 ns, which is much longer than other common organic dyes such as fluorescein (5 ns) or rhodamine (1-2 ns). Organometallic compounds containing etioporphyrin III have been investigated for their ability to bind to DNA and inhibit protein synthesis.
