Phallacidin is a toxin found in the Amanita phalloides mushroom. It is one of the three amatoxins, which are highly toxic cyclic octapeptides that function as potent inhibitors of RNA synthesis. The amatoxins are found in many different species of mushroom, but are most commonly associated with A. phalloides. Phallacidin is used to calibrate instruments and to assess analytical techniques such as liquid chromatography, gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography.
