Pyrimido[4,5-d]pyrimidin-4-amine is an isothiocyanate with a potential use in combinatorial chemistry. It is a reagent for the synthesis of pyrimidines and purines. Pyrimido[4,5-d]pyrimidin-4-amine can be synthesized by reacting phenyl isothiocyanate with thiourea. This compound has been shown to react with various nucleophiles at the methylene group to form amides or ureas.
Pyrimido[4,5-d]pyrimidin-4-amine has also been shown to be useful as a spectroscopic probe for studying the mechanisms of nucleophilic substitution reactions.
