Inhibitor of calpain, a calcium-dependent cysteine protease which is implicated in the calcium-mediated processes such as apoptosis and neuronal membrane excitability. Calpain inhibitor XII has antiviral properties as it can inhibit the main protease Mpro (3CLpro) from SARS-CoV-2 with IC50 of 0.45 μM.
