2-((3-(acetylamino)-5-(acetylmethylamino)-2,4,6-triiodobenzoyl)amino)-2-deoxy-D-glucitol (NU7441) is a potent inhibitor of P-glycoprotein and a potential therapeutic agent for bowel disease. NU7441 also inhibits mitochondrial ATPase activity and nitric oxide production in vitro, which may contribute to its cytotoxicity. NU7441 has been shown to produce significant cytotoxicity in cultured cells and to inhibit hepatitis virus replication in cell cultures. It also has potent inhibitory properties against Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), which is involved in the recognition of bacterial lipopolysaccharides. It has been shown that this drug is effective against autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS).
