Compound 1 is a potent compound that induces apoptosis in cancer cells. It has been shown to activate the caspase-3 enzyme, which is responsible for the execution of apoptosis. Compound 1 has also been shown to induce a number of different cellular changes and is effective in treating xenografts in mice. Compound 1 was found to be more potent than other compounds, such as 3-methylindole-2-carboxaldehyde and 4-(dimethylamino)benzaldehyde, with an increased ability to inhibit the enzymatic activity of zinc ions at physiological concentrations. This compound has two functional groups: an aldehyde group and a hydrazone group.
