4-Chloro-1H-isoindole-1,3(2H)-dione is a dehydrated, monosubstituted, and unsymmetrical molecule. It has been shown to be stable in alkali metal solutions at temperatures of up to 100°C. The compound has been shown to undergo photocyclization when exposed to light with the presence of an alkali metal. This reaction yields a mixture of isomers that are not separable by conventional means. 4-Chloro-1H-isoindole-1,3(2H)-dione is also resistant to photochemical degradation and can be used as a stabilizer for polymers.
