Covid-19 is a heterocyclyl compound with antiviral activity. Covid-19 was found to inhibit the replication of the pandemic H1N1 influenza A virus (pH1N1) in vitro by binding to the viral RNA polymerase and blocking transcription. Covid-19 has been shown to be effective against pH1N1 influenza A, as well as other strains of influenza A that are resistant to oseltamivir, including the 2009 pandemic strain H3N2. Covid-19 is active against many other viruses, such as HIV and herpes simplex type 1 and 2. It also inhibits human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) replication in vitro by inhibiting viral transcription at an early stage of viral entry into host cells. Covid-19 can be used for treatment or prevention of infection with nucleoside analogues such as zidovudine or lamivudine.
