4-Sulphamoylbenzoyl chloride is a potent inhibitor of anhydrase. It binds to the active site of anhydrase and inhibits the enzyme from catalyzing the reaction. The crystal structure of 4-sulphamoylbenzoyl chloride was determined by X-ray crystallography, which revealed that it has a bis(tetrazole) pharmacophore and a carbonic acid functional group. 4-Sulphamoylbenzoyl chloride is also capable of inhibiting amine oxidase and may have applications in treating diabetes mellitus. 4-Sulphamoylbenzoyl chloride has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase, with IC50 values in the range 0.06-0.35 mM.
