Description:

9H-Carbazole-3-carbaldehyde is a hepatoprotective compound that inhibits the release of inflammatory cytokines and has antidiabetic and antimycobacterial effects. 9H-Carbazole-3-carbaldehyde also prevents the sulfamic acid induced hepatitis by inhibiting the release of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) α, from macrophages. This compound also inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium smegmatis at concentrations as low as 0.1 μM. It is believed that the antioxidant properties of this compound are due to its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS). 9H-Carbazole-3-carbaldehyde reacts with benzyl alcohol to form benzyl carbazol, which can be used in monomer synthesis.
